IELTS speaking part 1 topic sleep

Question 1: How many hours do you sleep every day?

Answer: Well, it actually depends on how heavy my workload is on that day. Whenever I work to meet a deadline, I have to stay up very late and just get 4 or 5 hours sleep. I am not a night owl so I try to get at least 6 hours of sleep in order not to doze off for the next working day. However, at the weekend, I can let my hair down and sleep in.

Question 2: How to have a good sleep?

Answer: I guess people have different ways to have themselves a sound sleep. But if you ask me, I would say that bathing my feet in warm salty water would help me sleep like a log. Warm water boosts blood circulation and stimulate the cardiovascular system to work effectively, which have good impact on your sleep. Besides, try to set a fixed time when you have to hit the hay and strictly comply with it. Habit can be very powerful, you know!

Question 3: Do you think sleep is important?

Answer: Yes, of course. From my perspective, sleeping plays an important role in people’s physical and psychological health. It’s the time for our body to take a rest after a long day. A good night’s sleep also helps us release our emotions and forget all the bad things that happened during the day. Just sleep on it to rise and shine on the next morning, you’ll see that early bird gets the worm.

Question 4: How many hours do you usually sleep at night?

I usually spend like five to six hours a day on sleeping, which is not really recommended by doctors, I know. What’s worse is that I’m only in my early 20s but I’m already experiencing something called sleep deprivation. There are days when I cannot even shut my eyes down in the middle of the night.

Question 5: Do you like to get up early in the morning?

Unlike a lot of youngsters my age, I like getting up early in the morning to prepare myself for a new day. I used to be a jogger, spending at least 30 minutes a day on running and doing exercises in the park. But since Hanoi is overly polluted now, that habit has to stop so I tend to oversleep a lot these days.

Question 6: How to have a good sleep?

I think the answer to this question really depends. For me, having a light dinner with no proteins might get me to sleep better. There are times when I become so desperate that I have to resort to sleeping pills, which I believe many others are depending on for a good night’s sleep.

Question 7: Do you have a nap during the day?

I think this is a good question. I usually don’t spend my lunch break on sleeping at the office, but I often nod off many times during work hours. My boss is very sympathetic about this, though, since she knows my job requires endless hours of sitting in front of a computer screen.
