Do you use emails?
Definitely. I send and receive email on a daily basis, especially for my study. Emails are a message exchange medium where I can get my point of view across to my friends and lecturers.
Useful vocabulary:
No. | Vocabulary | Pronunciation | Meaning |
1 | on a daily basis | /ɒn ə ˈdeɪli ˈbeɪsɪs/ | hằng ngày |
2 | Message exchange | /ˈmɛsɪʤ ɪksˈʧeɪnʤ/ | trao đổi thông tin |
3 | Medium | /ˈmiːdiəm/ | phươn tiện |
4 | Get sth. across | /gɛt əˈkrɒs/ | truyền tải; làm cho người khác hiểu mình |
Do you prefer use email or text messaging?
I still prefer texting to emails because sending a text is much faster than sending an email. Salutation (formal greeting) and signature are required when we write emails, but we needn’t do such a thing when we text. Besides, texting is a default application on mobile phones and, unlike emails, is always at our disposal even without internet connection, which makes texting a more accessible medium.
Useful vocabulary:
No. | Vocabulary | Pronunciation | Meaning |
1 | Salutation ≈ formal greeting | /ˌsæljuːˈteɪʃən/ /ˈfɔːməl ˈgriːtɪŋ/ | A greeting in words or actions, or the words used at the beginning of a letter or speech |
2 | at someone’s disposal | /æt wʌnz dɪsˈpəʊzəl/ | available to be used by someone |
3 | accessible | /əkˈses.ə.bəl/ | Able to be reached or easily got |
Do you think it’s important to reply to emails immediately (or quickly) after you receive them?
I would say yes. I think rapid response to newly received email is very crucial, because that will show our respect to the email sender. When I have to make an important decision through email, I still respond “received” quickly, and spend time taking that issue into consideration. Then I will send another email to announce my decision.
No. | Vocabulary | Pronunciation | Meaning |
1 | Rapid response | /ˈræp.ɪd rɪˈspɒns/ | The act of answer a question quickly |
2 | Newly received | /ˈnjuː.li rɪˈsiːvd/ | Something new that you just got |

4 | Take something into consideration | /teɪk ˈsʌmθɪŋ ˈɪntuː kənˌsɪdəˈreɪʃən/ | To think carefully about a particular fact when deciding or judging something |
How often do you check your emails?
I would say I check check my emails, maybe on a daily basis. Emails are very crucial to me as it is a medium of communication between my friends or my lecturers and me. Therefore, I often check mails to get some official notifications from my lecturers.

Emails are really useful and important to me. I can use emails to contact people who are staying far away from me, and this really comes in handy as I have lots of foreign friends. Well, if I were to choose between the two, I will probably go with writing an email because I can have plenty of time thinking about how to express my opinion correctly and clearly, besides, the whole conversation can be tracked in the mail list; whereas, making a telephone call usually leads to misunderstanding because sometimes it is not very accurate and obscure.
